Wedding Makeup Ideas: Enhance Your Bridal Beauty
Updated: Sep 25
Your bridal makeup should look like you on a very good day, in person and in photos. These five wedding makeup ideas cover the looks most brides choose. Here's what goes into each, so you can point to one when we talk.
Classic
Neutral shades and soft, natural tones. The skin gets a lightweight foundation, a little blush, and a touch of highlighter. Eyes get soft earth tones like champagne, taupe, or light brown, a defined winged liner, and mascara. The lip is a soft pink or a peachy nude. This is close to what we call soft glam.
Glamorous and bold
For brides who want the makeup to show. Full-coverage foundation, contour for shape, and a smoky eye in gold, bronze, or silver. Voluminous false lashes and a bold wing add drama, and the lip is a red or a deep berry. Highlight pulls it together. This is full glam, and it's a good match for an evening or formal wedding.
Natural and fresh
Your features, just evened out. A dewy foundation or tinted moisturizer to even out your skin tone, soft taupe, brown, or mauve on the eyes, mascara, and a peach or rose blush. The lip is sheer, or a tinted balm. It isn't a bare face: a little makeup keeps you from looking tired in open shade.
Romantic
Soft and pretty. A luminous base or tinted moisturizer, pale pink, lavender, or champagne on the lids with a little shimmer in the inner corners, pink blush on the apples of the cheeks, subtle highlighter, and a rosy lip.
Bohemian
Relaxed and warm. A light foundation or BB cream, soft brown or bronze shadow, a thin line of liner, and a few individual false lashes. Peach or coral blush gives a sun-warmed look, and the lip is nude or coral.
How to choose
Start with the dress, the time of day, and where the photos will happen. Daylight and outdoor portraits favor natural, classic, and bohemian looks. An evening ballroom can carry glamorous and bold. Then tell us what matters to you: glasses, a lip you love, a freckle you want to keep, or a product you can't wear. Lashes are included with makeup unless you ask us to skip them.
Outdoor weddings need a few extra steps to make any of these last. See beach and outdoor wedding makeup. For how these looks line up with natural, soft, and full glam, see soft glam vs full glam vs natural glam.
Skin prep, facials, and spa time before the wedding
Every one of these looks sits better on skin that's hydrated and prepped. Brides have been leaning into hydrating serums, cooling under-eye patches, and light exfoliation in the weeks before. Many book pre-wedding facials or at-home spa appointments with us, and some add group facials or chair massages on the wedding morning, so the getting-ready suite feels a little more like a spa. On the day, our artists use plenty of moisture, smoothing primers, and facial massage techniques right in your suite.
Test it at your trial
The trial is where you find out whether the look works in bathroom light and on a bright patio, because they're different. See the bridal hair and makeup trial guide.
